National Redbone Coonhound Association

Well you didn't see me at Days. I got nervous. We had a layoff back in April but I missed the cut. June came an we had a few more get the word. Then June 19 I got a lay off notice for 2 weeks. Well I had to wait as always. So I done some thinking an decided against going. It was tough but I had to do what I thought was wise. I went back July 6 an things are back to normal.

Well I had answering machines at Mike Chirco Johnny Staats Heyward Sharpe Jr Tim Brewin an Danny McClesky. No answer at Glenn Pruitt's as it was ring ring ring. Bo Bennett was out an would be back in an hour.

Tim Lovelace was home. He got started because Scott Haynes had red dogs. It's been about 11 years. He says as long as he keeps getting results he has no plans to change. He's just been hunting competition wise about 5 or 6 hunts. The way things are. He got laid off too. He did make National Days though. He stays with the Yellow Rive bloodline. I did ask what off critters they had as he is way up in the mitt. He says that he's in Elk country. Had only one hound that took on. Said it was a circle an he cut the hound off but heard the freight train ( ELK ) come right by him. Most of his hounds might have tangled with a porkypine once but that learning experince was well remembered. He usually rigs or road hunts. He don't hunt farmland. His best dog got a disease that fights the own immune system. She was about 4 an now she's a house dog at age 7. He took her down to Michigan State to see if they could find out anything. No luck on that exploaratory surgery. MSU is has a good animal study.

Debbie Dorrance has a 3 year old that is more of a pet. She said back in the 70's an 80's she ran the competition circuit. She said she was about 3 when she was in the woods for the first time. At age 6 her dad left her at the tree with a young dog. He had to go get more shells at the house. He wanted that coon down to that young dog. It was only 20 to 30 minutes later. She has made both NRCA an ARCA days as well as a member. She told of some of the old timers as she knew quite a few. She said she lost one of her best hounds to cancer. It took 17 years to get another. She gave me a few names that might know about the Brooks Mcgill hunt.

I had a short chat with Terry Finder as he had company. I asked him about Brooks Mcgill hunt.

I talked with Gene Krutsinger. He aint in the best shape so keep him in mind. I haven't heard much on Dan Knight other he was in bad shape.
