National Redbone Coonhound Association
Grand American winners High scoring male Fireball Moon The Duce Joe Melton IN
and High scoring female MT View Little Ann Alger Morgan TN handled by Danny
Barrett, NC.
I received a letter an photo from Chuck Sahrow. He took his dog Gismo to school.
Mrs Ann Murphy had asked the Michigan State United Coon hunter Association for
some help. If you recall Chuck is on the board. Her class has watched where the
Red Fern Grow. So they wanted to know about Redbone's. Jim an Mary Merril went
along too. Chuck said he made a display of some of his dogs as well as Wayne an
Sara Campbell's dogs. Jim filled them in on coon hunting. Mary had her fur coat
on. They spent about an hour in Mrs Murphy's class. While they were leaving more
kids wanted to see the dogs. The tried answering all the questions the kids had
as well as some other stuff. He said the weather was rainy an hunting was 50 50.
Phone time. Herb Vaughn I got the answering machine. Dale Rakestraw ring ring
ring. Scot Crowder different number. Sean Combs not accepting calls. Todd Collin
not in service. Gorden Trueblood disconnected or no longer in service.
I did talk to Ed Terry. He said season was good. The colder nights was better
than the warm ones. He said they seen 24 on a night in the teens. He has been
hunting since he was 10. Talked some of tracking collars an lights. He don't
competition much any more. 3 years ago he had open heart surgery. That has put a
damper on hunting. He sits in the truck an listens mostly any more. His partner
is Joshua Guffy. In the days he said he would hunt 300 days a year. He kinda has
his own line. It stated with Fireball and Oklahoma Browns Twister. He says come
National days they might start hunting this new dog.
Chris Williams was next. He said the colder snap helped. He said distemper was
around. He likes younger dogs. He thinks he would be better off he had just 2
dogs. Don't we all ? He don't quit on a dog until it reaches 3. He said he don't
kill many coon. He likes when Days are close so he can attend.
Linda Hubbard was next. She just shows around Maryland. Thinks she would be
nervous at Autumn Oaks. She is fairly new as she just started 3 years ago. She
has 2 dogs. He husband hunts them. He's a Walker man so he gets ribbed about
doing so. She says she is particular about her dogs. One she feeds some high
dollar feed. We talked some of the show circuit. I asked her if she judged. She
said no. I said what Larry told me years ago. One thinks your right an the other
disagree.
National Days will be in LaGrange IN July 5,6 an 7. They will have water races.
I don't think they had them the last time. The usual stuff as shows, hunts
auction an member meeting. Hope to see you there.
It looks like the Hall Of Fame committee is gonna become reality. The last I
knew is they were taking comments for a time then iron it out.
