National Redbone Coonhound Association
Well it's start of a new year. Concerning those New Year resolutions. I hope
things goes a little better planned than last year.
National Days will be in LaGrange IN. It was held there a couple years ago.
I talked to Michael Weir. He hasn't done much competition hunting. Bear hunting
has really gotten under his skin. He told me a little of bear hunting. He said
he would like to have a good started young dog. He has been a paid handler. He
like to train a young dog as mess with an old one. He should have named his dog
Lucky instead of Redneck. The dog has been hit twice. He told he got a call from
a University hospital. A woman was a vet had hit the dog an took it there. He
put like $ 5000 in him. Then he got hit again. He said he still goes though. He
told me about a time he pulled porcupine quills outta the dogs nose. That got my
interest as those are something I don't get to talk of much. He said most of the
quills are about 2 ' long. He told me about a coon camp. Where a bunch of
fellows get together to hunt all week. He did say if I got up his way to look
him up.
Chuck Sahrow was next. He don't competition hunt as he is more of a pleasure
hunter. He has done some showing, like at Holmesville at National Days. He's on
the Board of Directors in Romulus. Some of the lines he has hunted; Timber
Chopper, Pine Meadow, Rusty Red,Razor Red, Tall Timber Talker, Fireball. He says
he takes a camera hunting. He usually drives about an half hour to hunt. Puts
bells on the dogs to keep track. The coyotes will come in when they are treed
cause they know something is coming down. Like 4 or 5. He said that a couple
come in about 50 or 60 pounds. He tries to stay close to his dogs. Usually it's
about 9:30 or later when he goes. That way the traffic is slowed down. He won't
hunt in deer season. His ten month is starting to come on strong.
Randall Lee got married in November. So congratulations.
Childers lost TRex. The vet wasn't sure just what done it .
I talked to Curtis Elburn. He said he was hunting some but Andi was doing more
than he was. I know time went to fast. I told him about the time I had seen
Kathy at a show like 4 years ago or so. She was driving as the Andi was showing.
While I have been getting ready to go out. I listen to the Redbone cd. One song
that really hits home with me. The line that comes to mind is Still got a lot of
hunting to do. Old Sue is moving in on 13 an a half. I have to pick her up to
load her as she has lost the spring to do so. The attitude sure seems to have
changed too.
