National Redbone Coonhound Association
It's been slow.
Bob & Linda Rose went to Ricky Jayroe's the week before Thanksgiving an stayed
the week. Ricky, Bob & Kevin Shelley went coonhunting. They had Gr Nt Ch Gr Ch
Redhawk & PeeDee River Elvira. They had 3 trees, 2 good tracks as well as a lay
up. The next day Bob, Linda, an Ricky went hog hunting. They stalk hunted around
the dike, Ricefield that they flood for the ducks. Bob let one get away. Ricky's
brother came up an they filled a doe tag. That reminds me of the Jerry Clower
story. His brother shot a doe. Then went off an got a buck. Well the game warden
come along an asked about the deer. Sonny told the warden looks like you shot
the wrong one. It was Doe Day. Back to South Carolina now. The next day they
bayed a sow which Linda took with one shot.
Ricky says he has a 15 month old pup outta of Gr Nt Ch Rowdy, from Bill Lash an
Nt Ch Mandy from Mark Lucas. He says it's the nicest hound he' had in awhile.
Roy Nealy from North Carolina started him. He's a solid tree dog.
I wouldn't mind hearing from you folks that run Ole Red on Big Game. I always
find it interesting to hear about it. I know some so the dogs are outta coon
lines but get switched over on the scent. Just from a few conservation's I have
had in the past. Here in the Hoosier State we have some Bobcats but they are
protected. Once in a blue moon you'll hear of a Mountain Loin. They had on e
they thought was over in Adams county last year. They had it on tape as well as
the CO an a Expert looking at the tape to verify it. It has been many years
since we had a bear on the run. Like over 10 years ago. Like the lions they said
no keepers reported any getting out. There are no hogs that I know of. The only
big game is the deer as well as Wiley Coyote.
July 5,6 & 7 is National Days. The place is Lagrange IN. It has only been a
couple years since it was held here. The usual events will be held. I will try
to get some more information. I know of but haven't had it confirmed it yet.
Keep reading in the future columns.

Season for me has been on the good side. I have been out an got some. Not like I
have hunted in the past or some of you folks do. My youngest dog kinda got me
stirred up to get out more. Her father did need tuned in time too. They have got
it. It kinda has been a strange season. Some tracks then drift off on to another
track an tree. I have took 3 hounds out behind the house. Just with me an no
help. Gone ahead call me crazy. The tracks aren't my hounds either as I talked
to one fellow say the same thing. I know that it seems that the ones I have
gotten have started at 14 an went to 19.5 pounds. I heard a fellow say that they
are fat they don't need to run. It kinda made me think that there was some truth
to that as it made sense. Another fellow said he thinks they got sick too. The
temperature went up an down in a 2 week period. Like 50 or so then down to cold
like teens. He also told me that he thought they had Parvo an Distemper. You
know Mother Nature keeps things in check when there are to many critters. I
didn't get my calling made to others here in the state to see what kinda season
they were having.
Remember that Ole Track comes back. Sooner or later.
