National Redbone Coonhound Association
I miss dialed Steve Huffman. I was nervous that if I called again I would get
the same number. Howard Mitchell wasn't at home yet. Steven Kenny an Tim
Gilchrist was no longer in service or disconnected. I tried Matt Martin and all
I got was ring ring. They had a tornado go through Nappanee IN like 2 or 3 weeks
ago. It tore something's up. So I can't say for sure if he got hit by the damage
or not.
I did have a talk with Gerald Mc Govern. He has hunted with Dorman Clouse's Tall
Timber Talker. Was in a cast with Woodpecker. I asked him which was the better
dog. The answer was Woodpecker. We talked a little of the other older
bloodlines. He hunts with Jim Stephens. Most of the ground around him is
rolling. Crop an cattle ground. As we ended our conversation. He said he was
gone hunting.
I talked with Jimmy Hollis. He has had Prostrate trouble and a Heart attack.
Within the last 5 years roughly . He's doing ok now. Just not the same. He's in
his 70's. He has some big dogs. A male like 110 pounds one female 80 pounds and
another one like 68-75. They are Blakesley bloodlines. He has hunted an showed
all over the country. Hunts mostly plantations. He stays away from the traps
though. He hunts by himself. Started hunting when he was 18. Even has an old
hunting horn. He talked about Armadillos. He said that's what most Northern dogs
seem to want to tangle with. I bet mine would. At least check them out. He said
if I get down his way give him a call a we would go from there.
Well this is the month that Dewayne retires. He works for Imperial Trophy which
supply's most of the breed associations. As well as most of UKC's big events.
They do some AKC an a little PKC. He builds the trophies. They are quite
involved to build. He is in his 70's. I'll put my foot in my mouth as I will say
thank you for your work. That's on behalf of this Association. The trophies will
probably take a different shape next year. Some parts will no longer be
available.
The weather has been abnormal in October. On the warm side some then cool. It
seems the deer have been active. I almost hit 3 with my truck. I think they were
standing in the middle of the road. I didn't catch any movement from the side of
the road. Two went off on the right an the other one was gonna go with them but
decided to go left. I thought I was gonna hit it. A lot of leaves are still
hanging on. Some are still green yet. I look for them to stay on awhile. They
said a few years ago that when its hot it affects the leaf falling process. We
have had some rain an some wind but not to many on the ground.
Merry Christmas an hope the New Year brings good things.
