National Redbone Coonhound Association
Well, here in this State it has been a rough season. Opening night was warm a
windy. I think we were under a tornado watch. Then came December. According to
the weather people we had like 17" of the white stuff. Christmas was a melting
White one. They say our average snow is like 34." With the white stuff came the
temps below 20. I don't have the number of days. Even seen the single digits. It
sure made me feel like it was January instead of December. Maybe those first two
months of the new year will be better. As I write the temps have been in the
30's a most of the snow is gone. Lastnight the fog moved in. Later in the night
it cleared out. Indiana weather.
As I usual wait till the end of the month to write. This month is a little
tougher because of the holidays as well as season in full swing. So back to the
to the member directory of the redbook. what state do I call. Who will be on the
other end.
After some failed attempts. I got a hold of Darrin Gher. He said the weather was
about the same as ours. He is like 250 miles of me. Just some miles where
National days was in 2005. He said he was going hunting later. His main dog is
Hughie. He crossed him with a female named Reckon. There are some pups making
the it. He said Hughie had placed 4th in Southern Redbone days an in a RQE at
Brazil. He never made the trip to Iowa because of the gas price. He has been
working with a 16 month old pup. He has had more males that females but leaning
the other way these days. He has been a 10 year member a had red 5 years before.
The bloodline is Fireball a Yellow River. He also said Hughie is in the
performance program that UKC has. Although the program is young. He thinks it
will catch on when the people see whats going on. We touched some on getting
kids involved. That takes a special one because these day there are so many
distractions. We talked quite awhile.
Talked to Charles Newgent. He is in his 80's. Hasn't had a dog in 4 years. Of
interest he told me some of Brooks Magill a the ACHA. He was active for a time
in the the ACHA. Done a lot of judging. I didn't quiz him to much but it was a
good talk.
I got to bed a the phone rang about 20 after 11. John Delcamp was on the other
end. We talked probably till midnight. He has got 3 of his dogs in Alabama. He
said he is leaving early a going down south. Hit the Grand American hunt, for
some bird hunting an armadillo hunting. That struck me. He said there was an
island with armadillos on it a thick with them. He said he does give half
interest in dogs. That promotes OLE Red. He said if I wanted to go hunting give
him a call. As we talked there were something's that we see the same way on.
Well, I haven't heard Hal Ketchum tell of any songs that has struck the top 40.
Meredith Slone and Dale Ferguson have a CD out, Memories of Red. I got to
listening to much as I found myself singing some of those songs.
Still got a lotta hunting to do.
