National Redbone Coonhound Association
How close is it to deadline ? Like always real close.
I haven't heard much so it was getting on the phone an calling people.
Well I called Justin Duke. It was about an hour call. I believe he is a younger
fellow. I forgot to ask his age. He has only really got a good start in
coonhunting in the last few years. He has known about it for may years as his
father has been a coonhunter all his life. So Ricky Jayrow your in trouble. Just
pulling your leg . Many years his dad has known Ricky. They hunt together as
they are not far from each other. Justin said he heard a lot about Ricky over
the years. Justin finally met him. Even name his dog PD RJ Red Kota. I aint sure
of the spelling. I had to hear it like 4 times an still not sure if it's
accurate. His dog hasn't been the same since he got hit. Not only did the person
stop. The person took the dog. That takes some nerve. All on a night that he
didn't have the tracking collar on. He thought he could get to him before the
highway. He got the dog back. The dog was lucky as the only thing it down was
scraped him up an leave the memory of getting hit. He has attended a few hunts
but hasn't really got into it for a couple reasons. He told me the land is flat
mostly down there. Like here but there are more swamps. Most of the time he
hunts in hip boots. If the water is to high chest waders. Wow ! That would be
like Duck Hunting to me ! Black River Swamp is the place he hunts after deer
season. He says they got their share or thickets. I asked him about what I call
have heard called Santee Cooper. The place where the blue cats rule. He said
it's within minutes. Season comes in like September 15 until March first. The
coon usually breed late an at least twice. He said I ought to come down an go
hunting. He said he wouldn't mind meeting me too. He wanted me to come down to
for the Grand American but I have consult my vacation time. The critter
population is kinda the same but with a few twists. Wildcats, some cougers in
parts of the state, plenty of Bambis an Wile Coyotes, wild cats. I asked him
about the hogs. That is something new for me. He said he hates snakes. I agreed
with him on that. I seen a garter out back sometime ago when I moved one of my
doghouses. He said in off season he carries a hoe for defense. Usually though if
you leave critters alone they won't bother you. I know there are times that you
come upon on them an things can get hairy. I almost wish I could head down an
hunt with them in a couple weeks. I got a week off. I know I can't. I would love
to get away though. I need to do that. Oh I hope he don't rib you to much Ricky.
Sure I put him up to it.
Ted Rhodes an Randy Lee I got the message of disconnected or no longer in
service.
Alan Barton no answer.
Melvin Burns I left a message.
Charles Sahrow stepped out a will call me tomorrow.
Mike Wright was out hunting. I didn't give him a call back after he got in. This
time change has me messed up some. The time difference is an hour. Me running on
a time frame. I didn't get him called back. He has been hunting and working 7
month old pup.
I talked to Bill Weir a short time. He hasn't done much hunting as he had a
heart attack. He hasn't drove truck since 99. So I told him what I knew an have
learned from escorting these last few months. Not all the time do I go. I told
him I was probably bye his way twice. He pleasure hunts any more. His son was
out so I didn't get a chance to talk to him.
I talked to Bill Johnston. I come to find out I woke him up. I told him he
didn't have to talk. He said he was up so. I asked him about his name as it was
familair. His son was the Horizen winner a couple years ago. Hunting has been
less than what it had been. They have made some rounds to the big hunts. He
pulled his son out of competition hunting for awhile. Hunting more on the
pleasure side.
A friend of Mike Marcums has had her foot taken off because of bone cancer.
Still got chemo to go through. The doc said she should be ok. I have had friends
an relatives that have got the cancer.
Also at this time Betty Knight the wife of Dan Knight. Had surgery to remove her
colon. As of this writing she is in Jackson MS. They had been on a visit an she
became ill.
I hope the Holiday Season is a good one.
