National Redbone Coonhound Association
Well, I got to talk to Dale Young. I think we talked a least for 1/2 hour or
better. He said he thinks he's come down from the World win. He said after the
win he had calls from all over for days. One point he was on the land line while
Laurie was on the cell line. He never really expected he would win. Kinda a
surprise. Only in America AKA Dutch is 4 years old. He is Sidearm bred, the
Mills family in AL. His brother is Sidearm Thunder owned by Tony Bottorff. They
have shown against each other from time to time. Usually going one way one time
a then the opposite. They did win the pairs at Autumn Oaks this year. America is
the winnings dog that Dale has had. He said that he puts on about 30,000 miles a
year. That is total mileage with travel to shows included. He said he bought a
diesel last year. We discussed the price as now they are well you know what I'm
saying. It's over $3 at this writing. He said he had a jinx on him for a while
cause there weren't no wins. 1986 was like when it came, my notes aren't to
clear on that. He said everybody is after him to get the Nite Champion on
America. One feller told Dale he thought he was rich as he traveled all over.
Its just that Dale likes showing dogs. He water races a field trials too. So
that's why he's here a there. Usually he goes somewhere every weekend. I asked
him what he done for burnout a he replied Snow. America title is Gr Ch Gr W Ch
Gr F CH. Don't be fooled that Dale don't hunt. He just don't do it much any
more. When I talked to him he had been out with his granddaughter with America.
He said his hands were full. A coon 2 dogs a rifle a she wanted to hold grandpas
hand. He had been up north with his brother an a few others hunting for a week.
Here's some of this years wins Canadian Open Grand, Southern Redbone days Gr on
Saturday & pairs, Winter Classic Grand, Michigan Overall State, 2 Grand wins at
American days, World all around, all 3 at National Days, RQE at Bellevue,
Kentucky State Grand an the Tri Fecta at Bellevue. For you that think America is
retired. Well, he ain't. One thing interesting about America he's a house dog.
Which he earned that. Me an Dale did talk of other things. He said he isn't that
good at getting a dog to gait. I know I can use improvement there. So there's
some insight to a World Champion hound an his owner.
I got an email fro Josh Gossage requesting some information. He said he just got
his first Redbone. He was worried he might mess the dog up. He though if he
joined an organization he could learn a thing or 2.
Dues need renewed? Send them into Kitty Brough 9068 W Duff Washa Oak Harbor, OH
43449. $10 I don't think they have went up to my knowledge.
Well, mid Oct I was having right knee trouble. I thought it might be the g word
but turned out to be tendonitis. Sawbones was getting read to bear hunting in
Canada. He said he might want a dog. I told him I could fix him up. One things
for sure. Every time I go in to see him I got a 1 of the 3 coonhound mags to
read while I wait.
I do have all the results of National Redbone days so if you want them get a
hold of me. There's like 4 or 5 pages.
Well, as the holidays get close this month. I hope they are bright an happy.
